Dr. James Aglio is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with a focused expertise in hand, wrist, and forearm conditions. He treats a wide range of injuries and disorders—from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and wrist fractures to tendon, nerve, and soft tissue conditions affecting the upper extremity below the elbow.
As a leading provider at Waterbury HEALTH’s Upper Extremity Center and in private practice at Active Orthopaedics, P.C., Dr. Aglio provides individualized, evidence-based care for patients throughout the Greater Waterbury area. Known for his precision and approachable style, he helps patients regain strength, mobility, and function following injuries, overuse, or degenerative conditions.
Dr. Aglio received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University. He went on to complete advanced fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery at the University of Miami Hospital, where he honed his skills in complex hand and wrist procedures.
He is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, reflecting his commitment to the latest advancements in hand and forearm care. Dr. Aglio is deeply rooted in the community and passionate about patient-centered care. He sees patients at both Waterbury Hospital and in his private orthopedic practice—offering accessible, high-quality treatment options close to home.
Outside of the operating room, Dr. Aglio enjoys live music, skiing, golfing, and spending time at the beach with his wife and two children.
