Dr. Charles Raftery is a fellowship trained orthopedic spine surgeon. In his private practice at the Connecticut Spine & Disc Institute and at Waterbury Hospital, he treats herniated discs, spinal stenosis, sciatica, degenerative disc disease and compression fractures. He also takes call for orthopedic trauma at Waterbury Hospital.
Dr. Raftery received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, completed his internship and orthopedic surgery residency at NYU Medical Center, and advanced fellowship training in spinal surgery through NYU’s orthopedic spine program in 1999.
He is known for his patient-first mindset—offering multiple treatment options, clear explanations, and coordinated care pathways to reduce pain, shorten hospital stays, and improve mobility.
